The Doublespeak Award is an "ironic tribute to public speakers who have perpetuated language that is grossly deceptive, evasive, euphemistic, confusing, or self-centered", i.e. those who have engaged in has been issued by the National Council of Teachers of English since Nominees must be from the US, though in the award was given to Yasser Arafat.   Written by English author George Orwell, the novel is considered one of the most terrifying novels ever written; not because it revolves around scary fictional characters, but because it shows what horrifying actions individuals can take when given too much power.. As you’ve probably guessed, the book is set in the year , where the “Party” takes full control over most of the.

The function of the book is to gather it and focus it, to show you that there is a pattern and a progression to this language, and I structured the book to have a lot of fun in the beginning, and the humorous uses of double-speak, but leading to the more important uses of double-speak by government, the Pentagon and the issues of nuclear war. Doublespeak is not language. It is anti-language. The purpose of language is to transfer a truth from one mind to another; the purpose of doublespeak is to transfer a falsehood disguised as a truth.

Doublespeak is the complete opposite of plain and simple truth. It distorts words and phrases in order to bury a truth. For example, if a pharmaceutical company said something like, "There are some minor side effects," when they should clearly be stating, "This drug may cause a heart attack," they're using doublespeak and acting in a deceptive manner. newspeak: [noun] propagandistic language marked by euphemism, circumlocution, and the inversion of customary meanings.
